Mission
San Juan Capistrano's Adopt-A-Class Program for Disadvantaged
Students
The
Mission's "Adopt-A-Class" program funds a
day at the Mission for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Since its creation last year, individual and corporate
donors have contributed enough funds to sponsor 1,386
students.
The
students come from many different areas of Southern
California, including Kennedy Elementary in Santa Ana,
112th Street Elementary in Los Angeles, Bayside Elementary
in Imperial Beach and Ceres Elementary in Whittier.
The
scholarship program cannot exist without the help of
organizations and individuals interested in funding
low-income students for their required 4th grade field
trip.
Normally,
these students couldn't afford to come, and in some
cases, have never been out of their neighborhood, much
less on a field trip to Orange County's only Mission.
The
demand from schools needing funding is extremely high.
The Mission has started a waiting list until more funding
arrives.
